Review guidelines

Last updated October 16, 2026

Honest reviews help people know what working with someone is really like. These guidelines keep reviews useful for readers and fair to the people being reviewed. They apply to reviews, responses and every other submission.

Who can write a review

  • You worked with the person yourself: as a colleague, manager, direct report, client or in another working relationship.
  • One review per person you've worked with. You can edit it as your experience changes.
  • No conflicts of interest: don't review yourself, a competitor, a family member, or anyone you're paid or rewarded to review.

Negative reviews are welcome

Criticism of how someone communicates, manages, collaborates or does their job is allowed, and we don't remove reviews just because they're negative. Positive reviews are equally welcome. What matters is that the review is your own firsthand experience, described fairly.

What makes a good review

  • Specific situations you saw or experienced, and their impact on you or the work.
  • Context: what you worked on together and when.
  • Balance: what they did well as well as what could be better.
  • Opinions framed as opinions (“I felt”, “in my experience”).

Not allowed

  • Personal attacks and harassment: insults, name-calling or comments about appearance or private life.
  • Threats of any kind, or encouraging others to harm or harass someone.
  • Hate speech or attacks based on protected characteristics.
  • Private information: phone numbers, e-mail or home addresses, health, family, relationships, sexual orientation, religion, finances, or identification numbers.
  • Unsupported accusations of crimes or serious misconduct stated as fact. Describe what you personally experienced; serious allegations are always reviewed by a moderator before publication.
  • Hearsay: things you heard from others rather than experienced yourself.
  • Confidential information: trade secrets or anything you're legally bound not to disclose.
  • Spam and promotion: links, advertising, solicitation or copied text.
  • Impersonation of anyone, including the person being reviewed or our staff.
  • Coordinated or fake reviews, including reviews written on someone else's behalf.

Anonymous posting

You can hide your name from the public on any review. Your account is still known to our moderators, so the same rules apply. See our Privacy Policy for the limited cases in which we disclose a reviewer's identity.

How moderation works

  1. Automated checks look for contact details and other private data, spam, links, profanity, signs of coordinated campaigns (such as many reviews about one person in a short time, or near-identical text) and, when enabled, AI screening for harassment, threats, hate, serious allegations and similar issues.
  2. Outcome: clean reviews are published. Reviews with private data are returned to you to fix. Anything else that needs judgement, along with reviews from brand-new accounts, goes to a human moderator.
  3. AI screening doesn't decide truth. Automated findings only route content; they are never treated as proof that a claim is true or false.
  4. Reasons and appeals: every rejection or removal comes with a reason, and every decision can be appealed from your dashboard.
  5. Edits are checked too. The published version stays up until an edit is approved.
  6. Overall scores appear only once a profile has enough published reviews, so one opinion can't define someone.

For the professionals being reviewed

  • Claim your profile: verify you're the person on it (for example by adding a one-time code to your LinkedIn profile) to get a verified badge and notifications about new reviews.
  • Respond publicly to any review. Responses are moderated under the same guidelines.
  • Dispute a review that breaks these guidelines, such as one from someone who never worked with you. Disputes are decided by a person, and a dispute alone never hides a review.
  • Correct your details or request removal of your profile using “Report incorrect information”.
  • We never accept payment to remove or change reviews, and retaliation against reviewers is not allowed.

Reporting

Anyone signed in can report a review using the Report link. Reports are confidential, and several reports bring a review to the top of the moderation queue, but reports never remove a review automatically.

Enforcement

Depending on severity, we may reject or remove content, suspend accounts temporarily, or ban accounts that repeatedly or seriously break these guidelines. Restricted users can always appeal.
